Death and life
The oil painting by Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Nature morte avec oiseaux morts et cerises (1712), is the starting point of this book work. It is reproduced on a left-hand page, and on the opposite page is a red stain that mirrors in position the cherries and berries of the painting, this blotch seeps through the paper to the following verso page. Has it occurred at the initial closing of the book? Now seen at every subsequent opening of the pages? Does this stain come from the paint, the printing ink, or the juice?
Open edition, sewn pamphlet, laser printed. 2015.
The book was selected by A-N as one of the best 10 artists’ books made in 2015.
